Hospital Notes   1 comment

There are certain basic requirements when checking in for hospital treatment, besides some other helpful things. First of all you will need to bring your sickness and/or injury. Of course that usually isn’t any problem, they usually stick with with you closely.

The next essential thing to bring is a full supply of patience, do not forget this at home as you will need a large dose each day, increasing with the length of your stay!

Other helpful items might include a toothbrush and paste, slippers, comb, and reading glasses. And by all means if you can get your hands on a English to Punjabi translator or dictionary, that could be useful given that most of the nurses, trainees, cleaners, and food handlers in control are of that South Asian extraction, with varying degrees of English capability. The balance of personnel being from East Asia.

Dr’s appear to be somewhat more equally divided between Canadian born and Asian born people.

It does seem ironic that a medical system years in the making by WASPS (white anglo-saxon people), is now pretty much controlled and operated by Asian people!

In short there has been a quantum shift in the demographics of the medical system in Canada.

I suppose there is nothing too concerning about that huge change, but it may well be unsettling for some seniors. Why? Perhaps because we are not easily adjusted to seeing and hearing mostly Asian faces and tongues treating our sickness’ or injury.

Regardless of your comfort level, be sure you’ve packed your bag with patience and understanding!
